Amazon.com Review For uniform lemon rind shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The totally flat grating surface makes it easy to move the fruit across the blades, while the rounded edges allow you to set this across the top of a bowl and grate directly into it. Ginger and all citrus fruits worked beautifully with this zester, and the tiny size of individual pieces means you won't need to do any additional chopping. --Jill Lightner

Simple and effective. June 15, 2008 I bought this to replace the fine grater on my box grater. I recommend replacing the box grater with flat graters for each purpose - grating cheese, lemon/lime zest, fresh nutmeg. This product is super sharp and easy to clean. Just watch that you don't zest your finger tips!
needs a handle November 27, 2007 i have this one and the one with a handle (different maker). the handle is much more useful and comfortable, but this one shaves twice as much! so if you don't mind not having a handle, I recommend this one. much more productive! and plus, I like the protective case it comes in.
This microplane is great! March 2, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one of these for myself and I like it so well that I bought one as a gift. I find myself using lemon, lime, and orange zest more often in my cooking because it's so easy to get perfect zest with this tool. I have grated fresh nutmeg with it also. I would highly recommend it.
No handle? No problem! January 5, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this zester for free from a Cook's Illustrated magazine promotion. I can't believe how quickly I can zest an entire lime or lemon. It's amazing! It's also great for hard cheeses, etc. I agree with other reviewers about the lack of a handle. However, I easily solved that problem by buying a Kitchen Aid silicone pot handle cover at Target. It slides on either end and won't slip off during use.
What this zester won't do: it won't create the attractive long "curls" that you can get from the OXO hand zester. You won't be making the key lime pie cover shot, but you'll be done in 60 seconds. Break out the OXO for the garnish, but let this Microplane do the bulk of the work.
A KITCHEN MUST-HAVE October 26, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of my most dreaded and boring kitchen tasks was extracting the zest from lemons for our family's favorite lemon pound cake. Where is the creativity in such a dull, time consuming task?
Now, thanks to this terrific zester/grater that chore is accomplished quickly and neatly. Obviously, it s a whiz on other citrus fruits, but also give it a try on hard cheeses such as Parmesan and Romano.
This is one indispensable kitchen tool!
