Product Description WMF Easy Pour hand blown glass wine decanter. Decanting is the process of pouring wine from a bottle into a carafe and is recommended for red wines. The main reason for this is to separate the clear wine from the deposit at the bottom of the bottle (influencing the quality of the wine). During the transfer the wine comes into contact with oxygen and can develop its bouquet better.
Amazon.com Review Made of lead-free glass, this classic decanter holds one 750-milliliter bottle of wine. While the most common use of a decanter is to prevent sediment in an aged red wine from spoiling the wine's clarity and brilliance, some authorities also recommend decanting young red wines to give them the opportunity to bloom. In either case, this decanter brings elegance to the dinner table. And because it has an indented well in the bottom, steady, careful pouring is possible, as fingers fit securely into the well while the thumb grips atop the decanter's flared base. Standing 9 inches high on a 9-inch-diameter base, the decanter serves beautifully as a vase when it's not being used for wine. --Fred Brack

Can't recommend December 1, 2008 I purchased this decanter based on the many positive reviews, but now I wish I had paid a little more attention to the negative ones. First the pros: - It's a very wide decanter, giving a lot of surface area to the wine so that aeration is accomplished very easily. - Very sturdy. You don't get the feeling that it's going to break with the slightest amount of pressure as you do with some other decanters. - It really is a good looking piece - especially at such a low price.
The Cons: - Although it says "Easy Pour" and it's designed so that you grasp it by keeping a couple of fingers inside the indentation at the bottom, it does tend to be a little awkward. You'll definitely find yourself using two hands to pour. - It doesn't empty out! This is the biggie for me. As others have already stated, it is nearly impossible to get the last glass of wine out of this decanter without completely inverting it. And, once it's upside down, I guarantee you've got a bit of a mess on your hands. I just don't understand how such a basic design flaw could've been missed. Or, maybe this is why this particular decanter is so deeply discounted?
looks nice, but hard to use December 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This certainly looks nice, and it's fun, but pouring the last glass or two is difficult. The decanter has to be almost completely inverted to empty it. This is not too difficult, but because of the angle, the wine comes out very quickly and can easily spill.
Nice decanter, bad design November 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I picked up this decanter a few months back based on the cool design and good reviews. The quality is fine, and the decanter does a good job giving the wine a nice wide surface area to aerate. If anyone is looking at this decanter, I'd strongly suggest picking up one with a narrower design.
The same sleek design that made me buy it in the first place also makes it pretty much impossible to clean. I picked up one of the decanter drying racks, and even with that you can never get all the water out. Droplets form on the inside edges and just won't evaporate out whether the decanter is bottom side up or drying up side down. After a few weeks of use (I was decanting a few bottles a week), I started to get a little mold on the inside surface and bought a decanter cleaning device (like a thick pipe cleaner) which helped, but still made it hard to get clean due to the shape.
I eventually began drying it out completely by putting it on a warm stovetop and heating any water left inside after cleaning. Not surprisingly, it ended up exploding one day all over the stove.
I won't be getting another one of these... I'll probably end up picking up one of the Vinturi aerators since it's less waiting and easier cleaning.
wine decanter September 7, 2008 It does a good job of aerating wine, is easy to handle, nice to look at. The "dimple" on the bottom creates stability.
Deacanter April 7, 2008 The product showed up very well packaged and unbroken. It showed up quickly even though we used super-saver freight. The product itself is great looking and actually works the way it's suppose to.
