with this coffee maker is that the metal basket that holds the carafe rusts. Once the rust starts expanding it could put enough pressure on the carafe to cause it to break. Have recently replaced it with a plastic version. I do love my French Pressed Coffee though!
Toss the paper cones away! December 20, 2008 If you're still making drip coffee, it's time to step up and go french press. It's that simple. It's better in every way.
Coffee taste has to be the most important issue and if you haven't done press, then you literally don't know what you're missing. With the press method, the steeping process means the ground coffee is in contact with the hot water for a longer time, releasing more flavor from the ground beans. You've probably read about how paper cones can absorb some of the oils and it's true. You'll taste what a difference it makes not using paper filters right away.
I also like that on a day to day basis, I'm not consuming a paper product, with all the associated environmental effects.
The retro look is cool.
The "3-cup" size makes 12oz of coffee, which is perfect for an individual coffee. I use this press with one of the Bodum Double Wall Glass Mugs and have room for milk if I decide to make a latte.

Excellent December 20, 2008 Excellent design and makes the best tasting coffee hands down. The glass also adds a touch of purity to the taste. One comment would be that they could make the glass more durable or thicker so it can stand up to the dishwasher.
Lifesaver December 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This coffee press has been a lifesaver for me. The coffee in our breakroom at work is nasty, so I've started keeping coffee in my desk drawers and brewing my own coffee! Not only does it beat the nasty breakroom coffee, but I love the slightly oily, fresh brewed taste! This press has helped me realize that good coffee beans can make a world of difference.
Perfect when power goes out December 18, 2008 My power goes out every winter when a car hits the power line. This French press has saved me many times when the electric coffee maker has no electricity. If you have a gas stove, this can save you, too. I've used Bodum French presses for years in assorted sizes and shapes, but the 8 cup glass Chambord is my favorite. It's about 32 oz which is like a couple of 16 oz travel mugs. It's very important to use a coarsely ground coffee or the filter system will not work as it should. (I keep some on hand for those out of power days) I always clean out the carafe and filter system shortly after brewing a pot so I never even feel the need to run the carafe through the dishwasher. Another hint is to depress the plunger slowly. Because I like my coffee hot and it can cool down in the 4 minutes it's left to brew, I also place a towel over the Chambord to keep it insulated. I only wish I'd bought these when the 4 for 3 offer was available!
