Product Description Grate fresh nutmeg in a matter of seconds, then simply turn the container over to shake nutmeg over your drink or dish. Our Microplane?? Grate-N-Shake makes it easy and fun to add fresh spices to your drinks and family cooking. Popular spices have much more to offer than pleasing scents--they each have unique health benefits that will add not only great taste to your special dishes but also a healthy boost. A half-teaspoon of cinnamon has been found to lower blood sugar. Nutmeg is known for its calming effects. Cinnamon is good for digestion. First grate, then shake, and then store the spice back in the bottom!Grates, shakes, and stores spices quickly and easily. Grating Area: 2"" x 1.25""We recommend rinsing your grater in warm water immediately after each use. Remove particles stuck in the blade from the back side whenever possible. To remove ""stuck on food"" from the front, first soak the tool in warm water and then use a cleaning brush and stroke in the same direction as the teeth. Store with cover on when not in use.

grating greatness January 7, 2009 If you love fresh ingredients, this nutmeg grater is a must. It stores the whole nutmeg and if you overgrate, there's even space to reserve a bit of grated nutmeg forthe next time.
Overly Complicated December 31, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Usually I like Microplane products, but this one is far too complicated. The grater part works fine, but it's quite difficult to snap the grater half (clear) onto the nutmeg storage part (black), and to slide the lid parts off and on.
It's also not intuitive at all. I literally had to read the directions to figure out how to take it apart.
The Norpro Nutmeg Grater (simple stainless steel curved grater with a storage part wtih a lid on top) is a far more intuitive and simple design that will last for years and without the hassle of having to fight to get the parts to snap together.
My new little helper August 22, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I used to have the rotary nutmeg grinder. I paid around $25 for it. The output was so-so, it leaked in my cabinet and you had to make sure the nut was placed in the chamber just right. The handle broke after about three years.
No more! I love this product from Microplane. I have the smaller Microplane rasp spice grater as well, but I wanted this one because it allows me to store the nuts with the grinder. (That's how I ended up falling for the expensive rotary grinder.) The output is fine. A good feature is that you can grate enough to spoon from the container if you need it for larger recipes. I think it grates finer than the other rasp spice grater.
The product is easy to clean -- unsnap everything and throw it into the dishwasher.
This is not a must-have product, but it is one of those little conveniences that makes cooking so much easier. If you don't already have a grinder, purchase this one. If you already have a grinder, wait until it breaks.
