Bought 2 and both would only display the same temperature (74) regardless of true bottle temperature.
 Surprisingly Flimsy July 10, 2008
I got a few of these as gifts for members of my wedding party. They were really flimsy and a little cheap looking, which was embarrassing. Since I didn't get one for myself, I can't attest to how well it works. Although - no one has mentioned them since, which means they aren't really something to rave about, or they thought they were disposable. If you are buying these as a gift, make sure to include a bottle of wine to go with - to up the presentation a little.

Got this as a present for my wife. I just thought it was another gizmo that'd wind up in a drawer within a week or so, but she really likes the thing!

Forget the probes and the infra-red devices -- this is simple to use and it works. Remember to grasp the back tabs of the device so it snugs up to the wine bottle for the best reading.
Very clever device!!!! However, I bought it new for $7 under the name of Soma Wine Thermometer in a liquor store in Ohio this March.
