| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Patterns for a Purpose, Fifth Edition, is a rhetorical reader that shows students how to use the rhetorical patternseither alone or in combinationto achieve various writing purposes. It continues to emphasize critical reading and thinking, to offer detailed coverage of the writing process, to provide a rich variety of writing opportunities, to emphasize argumentation and persuasion, and to provide reading selections, both classic and contemporary, that function as models as well as springboards for discussion and writing.

| Customer Reviews:
It does its job well December 23, 2008 I got this book because it was required for a writing class. I didn't spend as much time with it as the syllabus told us to, but for what I did get out of it I think it served its purpose well. It provides lots of writing samples so you can get a good idea of how certain papers are supposed to be written. It offers break-downs of the components of the essays that they show. I think it does a good job at making writers understand the writing process. If you can use it, it's very helpful for beginners and those who just need to refresh their writing skills.
Patterns for Purpose September 30, 2008 Book arrived in good condition. I can not personally review the contents as I purchased it for my high school daughter.
