Product Description
Olivia Gardner, a northern California teenager, was severely taunted and cyber-bullied by her classmates for more than two years. News of her bullying spread, eventually reaching two teenage girls from a neighboring town, sisters Emily and Sarah Buder. The girls were so moved by Olivia's story that they initiated a letter-writing campaign to help lift her spirits. It was a tender gesture of solidarity that set off an overwhelming chain reaction of support, encouragement, and love. In Letters to a Bullied Girl, Olivia and the Buder sisters share an inspiring selection of messages that arrived from across America—the personal, often painful remembrances of former targets, remorseful bullies, and sympathetic bystanders. Letters to a Bullied Girl examines our national bullying epidemic from a variety of angles and perspectives, and includes practical guidance from bullying expert Barbara Coloroso, author of The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander. Though addressed to Olivia, the letters speak to all young people who have been bullied, offer advice and hope to those who suffer, and provide a wake-up call to all who have ever been involved in bullying.

letters to a bullied girl October 5, 2008 I had my three children read this book ages 10. 12, and 14. They understood how people can affect another person life in a positive and also damaging way. They were absorbed in the book reading the letters from people of various ages. I think the schools should have this on their required reading lists in the media centers. It shows one how you can help another person in their life if you just give up a little time of your own to help those in need.
A "Must Read" for All Ages September 19, 2008 Bullying was once considered a character-building rite of passage for children, but now it is seen for what it is--a form of victimization and abuse which can leave lasting psychological scars. The letters in this book bring the bullying problem to life as we read the stories of bullies as well as stories of the bullied. Bullying affects everyone and, as evidenced by some of the stories, the scars can sometimes last a lifetime. I would hope that all students would read this book and many thanks to the two sisters who began the letter-writing campaign!
A Must-Read for all Educators September 11, 2008 We should all read this book. It is a wonderful example of how long bullying affects individuals. The letters are heart wrenching and touching and show the long-lasting results that bullying can cause.
Every educator, administrator, daycare worker, psychologist, case workers and parents should read this book. It is that powerful.
Letters to a Bullied Girl September 7, 2008 This book offers support for anyone who is being or has been bullied. I especially liked the inclusion of letters from former bullies and the insights from many older people who give a long perpective of the effects of bullying. This is a problem which is not likely to go away, so having more tools and awareness to deal with it is very beneficial.

I've been aware of this all-to-common type of oppression by certain persons against others since I was a youngster at school. I stopped my oppressor by fist-fighting him, and as with all bullies, he never bothered me afterward. - - This book is so fascinating, just to read the letters of people from everywhare and from all walks of life recount their experiences and read their spiritual support. - - Also, the proactive two sisters, Emily and Sarah Buder, who started this whole rescue operation public deserve recognition, if not a medal of some kind.
